Gymnema sylvestre is an Indian herb, also known as Gurmar and Meshashringi. Research indicates this amazing herb has positive benefits on blood sugar control 1, helps with sugar cravings 2 and to regenerate the pancreas. In one test, the pancreas doubled the number of insulin-producing cells. 3 Another interesting study showed that Gymnema helped reverse the pathological changes occurring in the liver, kidney and muscles as a result of hyperglycemia.

Gymnema sylvestre has no known or documented side effects. It is advisable for diabetics to use this herb with great caution and work in conjunction with a medical physician, as the blood-sugar levels need to be closely monitored and there may be a need to adjust the diabetic medication. The effect seen can take from 3-4 weeks in mild cases of Diabetes Type 2, to up to 2 or 2Ā½ years in severe cases of Diabetes Type 1. Individual results may vary, and are not guaranteed.
