Alkalize Your Body for Optimal Health
In 1997, I attended a two day essential oils conference taught by Dr. J.C. Lapraz where he explored with the class what he termed the “Terrain Theory” of medicine. I have also heard Dr. Daniel Pénoël refer to this same principle. Both of these men are renowned French Medical physicians who work as we would term Naturopathic physicians in The United States.
The theory of Terrain Medicine is that there are no outside factors to blame for disease. It’s not the germs and bugs that make us sick. Rather, disease makes a home because of the conditions present within the internal environment of the body. The most important of these factors are:
(1) Intestinal flora in balance, (2) Proper pH of the body (3) Sufficient pure water, and (4) Sufficient amounts of nutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals which form enzymes, hormones, neurotransmitters and other substances the body needs for optimal health.)
Most of us who have been on our personal Wellness Journey have focused upon changing our diet to include more natural foods. We have increased our water intake, have supplemented our diets with vitamins and minerals. Some of us have gone so far as to supplement our diets with enzymes and intestinal flora supplements (probiotics). However, many of us still have too much acidic waste in our bodies which is decreasing or canceling out the other positive things we are doing for our well being.
Optimal pH of Blood and Urine
The optimal pH of the first morning urine and saliva is 7.0. The optimal range of blood pH is 7.3 to 7.365. A blood pH of 7.3 or below is considered metabolic acidosis or acidic blood. If the urine pH is under 6.4 the body can’t optimally assimilate vitamins or minerals.

Felicia Drury Kliment has a most interesting book called, Acid Alkaline Balance Diet. She explains in great detail how acidic waste products in the body contribute to nearly every health problem that exists.
In studying both of these books I am astounded at the number of disorders in the body which all stem from one symptom too much acidic waste in the body! Dr. Baroody said that our diet must contain mostly alkaline-ash (what is left when the food is metabolized) foods and beverages. He also explains the other factors often missed in keeping our bodies in an alkaline state Our way of thinking, our emotional state of health and our spiritual state of health.
In all the books, classes and newsletters I have written over the last 20 years, one recurring theme I mention is that it is a balance of our physical, mental, spiritual and emotional states which contribute to our state of health or illness in the body. A person may have a wonderful vegetarian diet consisting of the recommended percentage of 80% or more alkaline-ash foods and 20% or less of acid-ash foods. However, if that person has any “toxic” relationships (with spouse, children, neighbors, co-workers), these will over-ride the wonderful diet. If a person is not at peace with the Self, and especially with the Creative Energies (God, or the Higher Power of your understanding), this will cause an acidic condition in the body.
We live in a high-speed, fast-paced technologically advanced society which is fascinating, confusing, wonderful, beautiful and stressful all at the same time! Most of us don’t have enough time to simply BE and enjoy life because we are usually in a hurry to get to whatever is next in our daily life. It takes more money to live than it did even 10-20 years ago. Many of us are trying to balance what we do to create a sufficient income so that we can have a comfortable home, raise our children, buy organic foods, supplements, personal care products and whatever else we need live life. Aside from the work we do, we all want to enjoy our leisure activities, time with friends and family, hobbies, sports and exercise. When we can’t figure out a way to easily fit it all in, we feel STRESSED! Stress causes acidosis in the body.
Stress is a factor which is different for each person. It is our RESPONSE to the stress which is important to us. One nasty phone call or interaction with a co-worker can send one person “over the edge”, while the same activity might be “sloughed off” by another person. What makes the difference?
When we have a predominantly alkaline state in our bodies, we have much more of a cushion of comfort. It’s like falling from the roof of a building and landing on the solid ground, versus landing on a trampoline or mattress designed to absorb the impact of the fall. Without cushioning, we can break bones, get a spinal cord injury causing paralysis or even die. With cushioning, we might wake up stiff and sore the next day, but can easily bounce back.
Achieving Alkalinity
Spiritual Factors - Find or reach deeper into your current Spiritual Foundation. When we are at peace with our our Maker and when we are at peace with ourselves, the rest of our lives flow in an alkaline environment. Some find this spiritual peace via their church or meeting space with others who share common spiritual values. Others choose meditation in silence, or even a walking meditation out in nature. Some people simply go out and just “be” with the mountains, trees, flowers, herbs, water, or whatever is available. The new Ormus Mineral Products carried by Kornax.com have often been touted as “supplements for the spirit”. Whatever is your way to continually re-connect to Source, please do so on a regular basis.
Emotional Factors - When you find yourself “snapping” at the people in your environment, feeling irritated and agitated, restless, nervous and anxious, you have many “acidic” emotional residues in your body. Find a way to express that which you have been repressing. I recommend working with essential oils, flower essences and gemstone elixirs to help you. There are countless other tools available such as the laying on of therapeutic quality gemstones, crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, just making sounds, as well as many devices people have designed to clear disharmonious emotional energies from your electromagnetic field. This area requires constant work as the energies on the planet speed up. Do what works for you.
Physical Factors - Find a diet that supports you and allows you to feel your best. Dr. Baroody suggests a mostly vegetarian diet, high in fruit, with possibly a tiny bit of fish (for some people) and no dairy. Felicia Kliment says it depends on if a person has a “meat constitution” or a “grain constitution”. I will outline these in greater detail below. Drink alkaline water. Test the pH of the water you drink. Many bottled waters are highly acidic, especially those made by soft drink companies. Just because there is a clear fluid in a plastic bottle that you purchase, does not mean it is necessarily a health product. If the water you are drinking is below 7.0 you will need to alkalize your water. WaterOz and the Angstrom Mineral company both have alkalizer drops as well as many alkalinizing minerals. Please read about these further in this newsletter. There is also a very wonderful water filter and separator from Japan that will divide your water into acid and alkaline. You use the alkaline water to drink, and use the acidic water to clean your house and water your plants.
Mental Factors - Do you have “stinkin-thinkin”? Are you the kind of person who complains about every little thing? Do you find yourself criticizing many people and situations in your life? Are you more concerned with what is missing in your life, or what you have to be grateful for?
This is an area which requires a great amount of discernment. We believe it is most useful to have a positive outlook on life, but not to buy into what some call “positive thinking.” In positive thinking, you ignore and deny your emotions, and just declare that no matter what, “all is beautiful, you love everyone, and that there are no problems.” This is like the ostrich who sticks his head in the sand, ignoring what he doesn’t like. These buried and denied thoughts and feelings will turn into acidic waste.
We feel what is best is to have a positive outlook on life, which means that no matter what happens, it is a wonderful adventure which is there to teach you or show you something. Life is a process of self-discovery. Once you have been made aware of your thought patterns which are acidic, you can change them. Self-sabotage is a common acidic pattern in which someone says, “Life doesn’t work for me. I always do things wrong. I can’t think straight. I’m no good at _____.” There are many healing techniques available to help us reprogram ourselves.
Other Elements to Consider in Alkalizing Your Body
Most Americans don’t get enough exercise. Then there are those who literally “pound the pavement” and force themselves into excessive exercise routines. Balance is always the key to healing, in the natural approach. Too little exercise means that if you have excessive acidic waste materials in your body, they have less of a chance of increasing in their circulation so they can be discharged through the waste elimination channels of the body. At the same time, exercise which is excessive for the individual can create MORE acidic wastes. One of these waste products is lactic acid. That is what causes most of the pain in the body upon exercising. Lactic acid is part of the cycle of glycolysis, or the breakdown of blood sugar.
We recognize that many professional athletes exist. These individuals place an undue stress upon their muscles, ligaments, tendons, cardiovascular system, thyroid, adrenal and pituitary glands - and in fact their whole body. We recommend that these individuals take whatever measures are necessary to bring themselves into balance with supplements, diet and fluid intake as well as very alkalinizing practices such as yoga and meditation to prevent acid overload.
It is well recognized that many athletes look 10-30 years older than their physical age. This is because of the excessive acidic conditions and free radicals in most athletes’ bodies, and life conditions. They may look healthy on the outside, but their insides are crumbling in the excessive acidic wastes they produce through prolonged, vigorous exercise. In order to be a professional athlete, one must maintain a highly competitive edge. In so doing, this can lead to “acidic thought patterns”.
We recommend that everyone find a form of exercise which most suits their lifestyle, and have the personal commitment to follow this on a regular basis. For most of the non-athletes in the world, a daily walk of a mile or more, bicycling, swimming, and yoga, are all very gentle, alkalinizing forms of exercise. However, it depends upon how each person approaches their exercise. Anyone can turn anything (food, drink, exercise, conversation) into acid! Intention is the key!
The kind of health care we receive is also important. Whether it is massage, Chiropractic or any other healing modality, it should also provide an alkalinizing effect. Some massage therapists subscribe to the theory of “no pain, no gain” and do a very rough, often grinding treatment on the body. In some people this can cause such a stress on the body that it produces a lot of acidic wastes. The same is true within the field of Chiropractic. There are hundreds of Chiropractic techniques -- from very “firm” to almost esoteric energy work. Find the one to which your body responds the most favorably.
Dietary Factors in Alkalizing - Two Approaches
The first approach I offer is that put forth by Felicia Kliment. She suggests that a person discover their ancestral dietary patterns. There are many differences in opinions to which foods are acid-producing versus which foods are alkaline-producing. Quoting Felicia Kliment, “Zen Buddhists say that bananas, avocados, asparagus, artichokes and spinach are acid-forming. Western scientists believe these to be alkaline because, when burned, they leave mostly alkaline mineral ashes.
Many acid-forming vegetables are very effective cleansers of the body’s acidic wastes. The juice of carrots and beets, with their high percentage of acid-forming
sulfur and phosphorus, effectively clean out the acidic wastes from the liver, kidneys and bladder. The juice of cabbage, high in acidic chlorine and sulfur, cleanses the acid wastes adhering to the mucous membranes of the stomach and intestinal tract. An excellent remedy for gum disease and infections in general is the highly acidic vitamin C.
Alkaline minerals are also effective cleansers. Potassium, calcium, sodium and magnesium in dandelions, endive and lettuce reduce Hyperacidity in all the organs of the body. Indeed, acid and alkaline minerals act together to cleanse the body, just as a combined solution of vinegar (acid) and bicarbonate of soda (alkaline) makes an excellent household cleaner.”
“It is necessary then to make a distinction between acids that are toxic and cause the body’s organs to degenerate and those that rid the body of acidic wastes and, by doing so, prevent degenerative disease. Proof that an acidic diet does not threaten the blood’s pH factor nor cause degenerative disease is that several populations known for their longevity have predominantly acidic diets. One example is the macrobiotic diet developed by Dr. Sagen Ishizuka in the late half of the nineteenth century to cure his kidney disease, which Western medicine had failed to do. Although it is based on the concept of balancing opposites - yin (acid) and yang (alkaline) - the dietary staple of the macrobiotic diet is brown rice, which contains a high level of acid-forming phosphorus.”
“Thus it seems that an alkaline diet is not necessary either for the maintenance of health or for a normal 7.4 alkaline pH blood plasma. Normalizing acid-alkaline balance in the blood should not be the basis for working out a diet for two more reasons: First, clusters of acidic, toxic wastes in various parts of the body don’t necessarily raise acid blood levels. It is therefore doubtful that balancing the acid-alkaline blood pH through diet would make any inroads into concentrations of acidic wastes located in the intercellular fluids or in blood capillaries far from major blood supplies. Second, the amount of enzymes, bile, hydrochloric acid, and other metabolites the body manufacturers for the breakdown of nutrients is not determined by the acid-alkaline blood pH, but by the particular foods that sustained the individual’s ancestors for thousands of years.” (P. 8-9 The Acid Alkaline Balance Diet)
Ms. Kliment suggests that the best way to eat is based upon the diet of one’s ancestors. This goes along with the Blood-type diet presented by Peter J. D’Adamo, N.D. his diet (of which he has several books published.) Those whose ancestors ate a lot of fish as well as meat should eat fish 2-3 times per week, while individuals of Asian descent benefit from following the grain-eating traditions of their cultures. In the USA, many of us are of a mixed ancestral origin, so there is a self-administered test to determine what factors have come to play in each person’s bodily digestive chemistry. Ms. Kliment goes into far greater detail, with all of her points documented by research to prove her point about the ancestral diet, I will outline her “test” below. I urge you to obtain her book to read all the fascinating research which she has documented in her book.
Determining Your Metabolic-Type Diet
Test One - Swallow 50 mg. of niacin on an empty stomach. If, within a half-hour, your skin turns red and you feel very, very hot and itchy, you have a meat-eating metabolism. If you feel warmed and have a better color in your face, then you have a balanced metabolism. If you don’t feel anything, then you have a grain-eating metabolism.
Test Two - If you want to confirm the first test, take 8,000 mg (8 grams) of vitamin C a day for three days in a row. If you feel depressed, lethargic, exhausted and irritable, or if you are a woman and experience vaginal irritation, then you have a meat-eating metabolism. If you don’t notice any change at all, you have a balanced metabolism. But, if you feel an improvement - more energy, better quality of sleep - then you have a grain-eating metabolism.
Ms. Kliment discusses the differences in the sympathetic versus parasympathetic nervous system-dominant nervous systems of meat-eaters (parasympathetic-dominant) versus grain eaters (sympathetic-dominant). She says, “By accommodating your diet to your metabolic type you can reduce the excessive nutrient levels of the dominant nerves in your autonomic nervous system and at the same time build up a supply of nutrients that will speed up the
under active half. A better balanced autonomic nervous system will reduce the acidic wastes that sluggish organ function leaves behind.”
Felicia Drury Kliment discusses cases of individual allergies to items which can occur if you have a parasympathetic-dominant or a sympathetic-dominant metabolism. I will not outline her information here. Please refer to her book for more details. She mentions that if you have an allergy to a particular food, it will produce an acidic waste in the body.
Dr. Theodore Baroody’s Approach
Dr. Baroody suggests a very basic diet for everyone, and doesn’t take into account the person’s ancestral lineage. He has extensive lists of foods and beverages in his book and gives each a numerical pH level based upon their acid or alkaline-ash residue, when the food is metabolized. I am only barely mentioning his approach here, as he has a 21-day diet delineated in his book, complete with recipes. While his recipes are all extremely wonderful and delicious, it is my opinion that this approach is for those people who feel they wish to live life existing mainly on fruits, and also mostly raw foods.
This is a wonderful diet for some people, at some times. I also believe that some people need to eat some animal proteins, and that a person can maintain an alkaline body state if they find the diet which is best for them. Some of us change our diets according to the seasons. The summer is an excellent time to fast on juices and eat raw and lightly cooked vegetables from the garden. In the colder seasons, some people’s constitutions need warm foods and possibly some organic meat, poultry or fish.
For many of us, the diet Dr. Baroody recommends is not practical. Each of us needs to determine if we feel more attuned to following our ancestral diet or the Western scientific diet, as described by Dr. Baroody. I do highly recommend that those of you interested in investigating acid alkaline balance read his book. It is very wonderful, especially the aspects of the spiritual, mental and emotional aspects of living the alkaline lifestyle.
Another Approach - for Busy Stressed-Out People
Bringing the body into an alkaline condition can be stressful in an of itself, as you are cleansing and detoxifying. We recommend the gradual approach, to reduce the cleansing responses. The body will detoxify and cleanse itself in cycles of 3 days, 14 days, or 21 days or a combination of these days. Detoxification will occur when the body’s pH changes. Detoxification may cause your pH to become temporarily more acidic as you clear stored toxins which have to be eliminated by your body.
When you design your alkalinizing program, keep in mind the state of health of your 5 major organs of detoxification ( kidneys, colon, lungs, liver and skin.) If any of these are not strong enough, it can cause many problems as you start to detoxify. Also, because most of us are used to the allopathic system of disease care , we mistake a normal, healthy detoxification process with the feeling that what we are doing is “causing” us to “be sick.” Nothing could be further from the truth! For example, if you are cleaning out a closet in your home which has been stuffed full of items for many years, you first have to pull everything out of the closet to see what is in there. What a mess you have created! Then, you sort through the things, keeping what you want, re-organizing items to different locations in your home, and throwing away the rest. So, it temporarily looks worse before you are done.
The same is true with the body. When you detoxify, you bring out stored toxins from the deep tissues. They must travel through the bloodstream, including the brain, before they are sent out of the body. When engaging in natural healing (the only practice that is really, truly healing), the body may often feel worse before it feels better. Depending on the level of toxicity of each individual, a person can experience fatigue, the need to sleep many extra hours or the need to take naps, insomnia, nausea, depression, skin rashes, eye and sinus discharge, diarrhea, constipation, twitches of nerves, irritability and other acidic emotional and mental states, or whatever is different in you as you cleanse.
This may sound very negative, however if one understands what happens in the body as it heals, it is a temporary phase we go through if we truly want to be well on ALL levels. So, we will go through these cleansing crisis, and times of discomfort to get to the benefits. Believe me, it is far better than the lists of the side-effects of taking unnatural drugs to alter one aspect in the body.
Remember that most allopathic drugs (while they may start out with a natural substance), are chemically altered and made unnatural to “fool Mother Nature”, so that they normally only have only one effect. (By contrast most natural remedies can have up to many thousands of effects upon the body.) The allopathic drug may be designed to stimulate or suppress some body function in order to stop a particular symptom.
When a person thinks allopathically, these drugs can seem like true miracle workers. Indeed, the extremely technical expertise it takes to do the research into infinitely minute mechanisms within the body to discover an error during a disease process and then create a drug to alter that process is an amazing skill! If one thinks as these people do, then the drugs they create are amazingly beautiful. I see it as an interesting experiment in creativity. However, it has little if anything to do with healing the human body!
When one works within the Naturopathic mode of correcting the dysfunction at the level of the source, one expands the vision to think (as the allopaths do) of more than a single cell or number on a DNA strand that malfunctioned. Yes, we acknowledge that these things did happen, and that they produced certain symptoms, which are unpleasant. We acknowledge that correction needs to be given for healing to occur. However, in the natural mode of healing, one looks to the larger picture to see the body in terms of systems, and then the interrelationship between the systems, to ultimately seeing the body as a whole. When one part is “broken”, the whole system suffers and does not work properly. We recommend an Integrated approach of working on a combination of whatever one needs in terms of diet, water intake, relationships, emotional, mental physical, and spiritual aspects.
What Kornax.com Has Available to Alkalinize the Body
Alkaline Drops - Angstrom suggests that one use 2 drops in 8 oz. of water 4 to 6 times daily
Body Alkalizer - WaterOz suggests that one use 2 drops to 8 oz. of water 4 to 6 times daily
MSM - Methylsulfonylmethane (Kornax brand and Rich’s) - Dr. Baroody says in his book that sulfur is an alkaline-binding mineral. Felicia Kliment says that while sulfur may have this attribute, it also flushes acidic wastes from deep within organs and other tissues in the body, and thus has a great benefit in bringing the body back into an overall alkaline pH.
I personally feel that due to the strong pain-diminishment and tissue rebuilding which occurs when MSM is taken (neither of which can occur in an acidic condition), that it has more alkaline benefits than in burning up alkaline reserves. I suggest that our customers get into pH testing and see their own results.
Ionic Minerals (from Water Oz and Angstrom Mineral Companies) - take one teaspoon of the minerals you choose in an 8 oz. Glass of water. You can mix all of these in one glass, as long as it is ingested immediately. Please read about the other properties of these minerals elsewhere on the web site.
Calcium
Magnesium
Potassium
Sodium - only available from Angstrom Minerals
Iron
Manganese
Ph Testing (Comes in Strips to easily dip, or a Paper on a roll which you tear off) - It is highly recommended that when one is engaging in their particular alkalinizing program, to test the morning urine and morning saliva before one eats or drinks anything. The Urine will be the best indicator of the internal physical factors within the body. The Saliva pH will be the best indicator of one’s emotional state. If you wish to do research on yourself, you can also do more testing (1)after eating certain foods (2) drinking certain beverages,(3) going through various emotional experiences (4) states of stress or states of relaxation. Then you can see the various aspects within your personal life that are contributing to your particular pH levels.
Shampoos & Soaps - Did you realize how many toxins are in your personal care products? The hair and skin are meant to have an acid “mantle” for protection against the outside world. Many soaps are too alkaline and thus strip off the acid layer of protection. Thus, the body will have to manufacture more acid to replace this. That is why certain people can develop an “addiction to” some soaps, lotions and shampoos. The following products we carry can help you replace toxic personal care products:
Rich’s MSM lotion (MSM, Almond, Aloe Vera, Apricot Oil, Calendula, Vegetable
Glycerin, Jojoba, Australian Tea Tree Oil, Vitamins A, D, & E)
Rich’s MSM soap (Vegetable Glycerin, MSM, Safflower Oil, Castor Oil, Palm Oil, Coconut Oil)
Classic Gold Beauty Bar Soap and Shampoo (Aloe, Almond, Apricot, Vitamins A, D & E)
E3 Aphanizomenon flos-aqua (blue-green algae) Organic, Vegan Peppermint soap - Olive, coconut & palm, peppermint tea, jojoba oil, E3 Aphanizomenon flos-aqua (blue-green algae), essential oils of peppermint, rosemary, clove, juniper, spearmint.
E3 Aphanizomenon flos-aqua (blue-green algae) Organic, Vegan Kelp soap - Olive, coconut & palm fixed oils, Superfatted with kukui nut oil, ground kelp, chlorophyll and E3 Aphanizomenon flos-aqua (blue-green algae), essential oils of juniper, elemi, frankincense, laurel, patchouli, geranium and oregano.
E3 Aphanizomenon flos-aqua (blue-green algae) Organic, Vegan Green Tea soap - Olive, coconut & palm fixed oils,
Superfatted with sweet almond oil, slippery elm, green tea and E3 Aphanizomenon flos-aqua (blue-green algae). We believe all of the algae products offered by the E3 (Earth’s Essential Elements)/Vision Inc. products are alkalinizing. These include:
AFA (Aphanizomenon flos-aqua) - Blue Green Algae in encapsulated, powdered form or the live frozen form
AFAMend Capsules - Blue Green Algae Extract
Enzymes Supreme - containing digestive enzymes and AFA
Phycomin Tincture - Blue Green Algae Extract
ReNew Me - MSM, Hawaiian Spirulina, Camu-Camu, Organic Cayenne Pepper, Cyanophyta (Aphanizomenon flos-aqua), Crystalloid Electrolyte Sea Minerals (Organic Copper, Iodine, Manganese, Zinc, Potassium, Cobalt, Sodium, Selenium, Chromium, Silica and Boron)
We at Kornax.com wish you well in your alkalinizing program.
