The Next Dimension
Vol. 7, No. 1 A Newsletter by Dr. Marcy Foley Winter 2001-2002
In this newsletter, I mention some research on MSM provided by Medical doctors and other researchers in regards to specific named diseases. As a Naturopathic Physician, I don’t work with disease. If you have a sulfur deficiency, I am simply informing you that MSM is one source of supplementation. I am in no way promoting using MSM or any other natural substance to cure diseases.
Thank You, Dr. Marcy Foley
Our Continuing Rebuilding Process,
Discussion of MSM, Dangers of Soy
and the Power of Surrender
I bid you the very end of what I hope has been a Happy Winter! – our wonderful quiet, reflective time! Many of us have been rebuilding on all levels in our lives since the events of last fall. All of us were impacted in some way due to the 9-11 events. I surmise that many of us felt betrayed, violated, angry, fearful, terrorized, or a combination of all of these.
Perhaps some of us felt shocked as it rattled the very foundation of us – emotionally, physically and maybe most of all spiritually. If you haven’t completely healed yourself on all levels, let me support you in rebuilding. In the past, I mainly focused on essential oils in my newsletters. However, I choose to remind you that our Creator has given us many wonderful ways to heal ourselves and I suggest tuning into yourself to determine what is best in any given moment. vibrational remedies can be both very subtle and very powerful.
If you have never had me create an individualized 28-33 day Vibrational Remedy Program, please avail yourself of this most marvelous method of recreating your wholeness. My Vibrational pharmacy has remedies for shock, trauma, feelings of betrayal, nervous exhaustion and so much more. I work with over 4000 vibrational remedies.
In my work with vibrational remedies, I dowse for the remedy you need and also the potency of that remedy, and how many doses you need. In vibrational medicine, if you take more doses than you need, you will do what is called “proving the remedy” and you will undo the healing you have done. For instance, I recently got a nerve virus, and I only needed one dose of a 100X (a particular potency) of that remedy and the virus was gone!
One level of life is always symbolic of another. When we rebuild the energies within us, they are reflected in our physical bodies. In healing any aspect of ourselves, we must begin inside with our subtlest energies, at the level of our spiritual body. When these are healed, they work their way through the emotional body, followed by our mental body and lastly our physical body. The use of our beautiful essential oils and Vibrational remedies, along with writing a vision for our lives and various meditative practices is the best way I know to heal our spiritual and emotional bodies. Later in this newsletter, I’ll include a meditative practice you can do for these areas.
If we choose to begin the Spring time with optimal functioning, it is first important to ensure that we have a strong structural foundation. Thus, I will focus on our Musculoskeletal System – muscles, bones, joints, and connective tissues (tendons, ligaments, spinal discs.)
When I do a Health Reading, I measure the percentages of masculine and feminine energies out of 100% being optimal. My well being recipients often ask me how they can know which energy is dominant in their body and how they can regain the proper balance in these two important energies. So, I’ll share some of that here.
I perceive the musculoskeletal system as a wonderful co-operative relationship between both masculine and feminine energies. The bones, ligaments and the whole skeletal system represent our masculine energies. They represent strength and support, especially the hips and knees. Because they have more flexibility, I view the muscles, tendons, joint fluids and spinal discs as representing our feminine energies. Yes, they also have a supportive function, and yet it is a softer kind of support.
If you have a lack of optimal functioning in any area of you body, go inside yourself and ask if it relates to masculine or feminine energies and then you have an indicator of how you are relating to your own masculine and feminine energies. You can extend the symbolism to include relationships with men and women in your life as they will mirror to you your relationship to your own masculine and feminine energies.
The next step is to relate these energies to the world around you. What do you feel the bombing of tall structures in New York could represent? What kind of energies are in Manhattan? Is it possible there was an area of imbalance that needed rearranging? However those events impacted you indicates something within your consciousness for you to discover about yourself, and it will be slightly different for each of us. This is how we heal the world starting with our bodies, on up to the giant mirror of the planetary body.
When we stop the idea of separation and engage in the ONEness of life, we can really move forward and heal as a whole planet. In my many years of working with people, I find some that are willing to do whatever it takes to heal themselves, (and thus the planet), and others who would rather complain that life simply doesn’t work.
Some people find the way I investigate the events in my world and what it tells me about my own consciousness to be too tedious. People have actually said to me, “Oh come on! Don’t take everything so literally. Don’t be so serious!” I suppose it just depends on one’s priorities in life. I just don’t want to miss any opportunities for personal and planetary growth, healing and evolution.
One of my readers wrote to me after my Fall 2001 issue where I commented on the World Trade Center bombing and I stated that certain people volunteered to sacrifice themselves so that the rest of us left on the planet would feel our emotions and take ownership for them. She felt I was obviously misinformed or very naive because she knew some people who were present at the actual event and said those who jumped from the building had the look of absolute terror on their faces.
Well, obviously this woman didn’t realize the level I was commenting upon. Yes, it is my reality that these people volunteered for this “assignment” (which they agreed to on a subconscious or higher dimensional level), and yet in that moment when they jumped out of the window, they weren’t remembering that on a conscious level. If they had, it would not have stimulated them to experience the emotions they needed to experience.
Perhaps someone who jumped out of the building had wanted for many lifetimes to get in touch with old, repressed terror, and the only way they knew to heal that was to leap out of the 90th floor of a burning building! Perhaps to some people this sounds too far-fetched, but if I felt that life happened randomly or that there were actually victims in this world, I’d have a hard time believing that God truly existed!
This same woman wondered how the act of us recalling our fear, anger, terror and rage that we allowed to fragment out of our bodies was going to help terrorists living on the other side of the planet. It is simply the principle that when we fully and completely love and accept ALL of our emotions – the ones today and the ones from other times in our lives, there won’t be those fragments of emotions “out there” to influence those who are energetically susceptible. It is the theory of a unified field of consciousness, from which the “hundredth monkey effect” comes into play. So yes, when I heal something within myself here in Boulder, Colorado it DOES effect someone living in Afghanistan because we are all part of God’s wholeness!
It is when we dig this deep into ourselves that we get the most out of our life experiences, which in turn affects the health of our physical body. This is what I mean when I say I take responsibility for my reality – internal and external. When we combine all of this information on masculine and feminine energies with other aspects of symbolism in our world around us, we can really glean quite a bit of information about what is going on within us. And when we do, there is all we need to fully and completely heal ourselves.
So, as a practicle suggestion in looking at this symbolism, I suggest starting with our physical body and working backwards into realizing our spiritual, emotional and mental areas which perhaps lack clarity and truth. In the physical body, if there is inflammation, we can investigate areas of anger. If there is pain, we can ask where we are resisting God’s loving light, or where we need a wake-up call. If there is a loss of joint mobility, we can see where we are putting the breaks on or where we are being too rigid in our attitudes.
Cancer or a tumor in the bone can bring us on a pathway to exploring areas of lack of self-acceptance (which can manifest as self-rage, self-hatred, self-rejection, self-judgments.) There are many conditions associated with the musculoskeletal system such as Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue, which I will address later.
If you are interested in this level of looking into your life, you may find our book, Illuminating Physical Experience, supportive. We discuss the emotional patterns of illness, the chakras of the Earth, why people chose their race, country of origin, and what they came to learn from these birth choices.
MSM, or Methylsulfonylmethane, is a natural substance present in certain plant life, food and in the human body. MSM is about 1/3 (by weight) nonmetallic sulfur. In all my nutrition studies, sulfur was never emphasized even though sulfur is the third highest mineral in substance composition in the human body.
If this is such an important nutrient, why don’t we hear more about the importance of sulfur? Perhaps because sulfur is present in two amino acids – methionine and cysteine – it is often felt that if we have adequate amounts of protein in our diet, we will therefore have adequate amounts of sulfur. But, in order to utilize nutrients from our foods, we have to have optimal digestion and assimilation.
Since most of us have faulty nutrition and digestion, we need to improve our diets, rebuild our digestive systems and also add MSM in supplement form. Since we need sulfur for the normal function of enzyme-dependent reactions in the body, MSM plays a crucial role in both our anabolic (building up) and catabolic (breaking down) metabolic processes. When these two processes are in balance, our body will be in homeostasis. I will outline some of the functions and purposes of MSM and thus sulfur. (The Forgotten Nutrient MSM: On Our Way Back to Health With Sulfur, Beth M. Ley, Ph.D., p. 8-9.)
Sodium-Potassium Pump – Sulfur is necessary for the sodium-potassium pump, without which life could not exist. There are certain osmotic pressure gradients which keep the potassium on the inside and sodium on the outside of the cell.
Membrane Permeability – Sulfur makes the cell membranes permeable which allows the nutrients to go into the cell and the toxins to go outside the cell.
Structural Support – When new cells are made – regardless of whether they are present in bone, connective tissue, blood, muscle or soft tissues – sulfur is necessary, along with Vitamin C and other nutrients.
Flexibility & Elasticity – These are two characteristics of disulfide bonds which provide movement within protein structures in the body including hair, skin, nails, blood vessels and organs. A willow tree is strong, yet flexible enough to withstand strong winds and this is how the structures in the body should be. When a child falls down he will usually just get up and carry on. The older person with a more brittle body could end up in the hospital.
Tissue Repair and Healing – Pain relief and anti-inflammatory properties are probably the two most important reasons MSM is taken as a supplement. The properties sulfur provides for relieving musculoskeletal discomforts have a long history of use in hot mineral springs. Sulfur dilates blood vessels, increases blood flow and relieves muscle spasms which contribute to its effective pain relief. Doctors whose patients are taking MSM are either able to lower the dosage of pain medication they prescribe, or discontinue it entirely.
Scar Tissue – Sulfur reduces scar tissue by reducing the excessive crosslinking patterns in collagen. Crosslinking is a process in the body which occurs after surgery or serious traumatic injury to repair tissue. But if there aren’t sufficient building materials in the body to make new cells properly, this crosslinking can be rather crude, or have an excessive build-up of scar tissue. Aside from being unsightly, this scar tissue can also be painful because the cheloids are such hard tissue that there is not enough blood circulation and nerve supply. MSM softens the tissue, making it more flexible so the tissue can be reformed as new cells are made.
Intestinal Health – Sulfur helps to restore normal peristaltic activity and assist in the removal of worms and parasites.
Sulfur Deficiencies – In addition to the topics already mentioned, think of sulfur when you have allergies, slow wound healing, brittle hair and nails, gastrointestinal problems, joint and nerve inflammation, muscle pain, autoimmune disorders, post-traumatic pain and inflammation.

The Forgotten Nutrient MSM: On Our Way Back to Health With Sulfur
Beth M. Ley, Ph.D. $3.95 (plus S & H)
Approximately 40-50 million Americans are plagued by allergies having symptoms of headaches, fatigue, sneezing, watery eyes, stuffy sinuses, mood and behavior changes, diarrhea, coughing, skin rashes, muscular aches and pains. MSM is present in breast milk, and it is believed that babies who are breast fed have fewer allergies or immune problems.
Medical treatment for environmental illness and severe allergies includes administering antihistamines, anti-inflammatories and antibodies. These have a host of side effects, and can actually stimulate more histamine release and other allergic reactions.
John Metcalf, D.V.M. began experimenting with MSM on his horses with amazing benefits which in turn lead him to use MSM on his own allergies. He used 2000 mg. twice a day. Being an avid researcher, Dr. Metcalf periodically stopped the MSM to go back on his usual dosage of antihistamines until he was convinced of the effectiveness of MSM.
In asthma, the bronchial tubes (airway passages) become filled with mucus. Then they become inflamed and the muscles surrounding the airways become tightened and spasm, so that breathing in and out becomes an arduous task. About fifteen million Americans suffer from asthma, and every year 5,000 die.
The standard allopathic (medical) treatment for asthma is to use symptom-suppressing drugs that are known to cause major side effects. Bronchodilators (inhalers) are used to expand the airways even though a 1992 study declared that regular use of bronchodilators may actually increase the risk of dying from asthma. The New England Journal of Medicine published a study in 1997 in which it indicated that children taking anti-inflammatory and steroid drugs (such as cortisone) experienced a reduced rate of growth.
Stanley Jacob is a medical physician who has discovered many positive effects in working with MSM for asthma and allergies in children. He prescribes 2000-8000 mg. a day of MSM, taken in divided doses. While he says that MSM does not cure them, it reduces their symptoms so beautifully that they don’t need cortisone or antihistamines. He slowly weans the children off their allopathic drugs with the use of MSM. Please note that only an M.D. is allowed to regulate prescription medications.
According to the Arthritis Foundation, Fibromyalgia is the second leading arthritis-related condition. It could also be called soft tissue rheumatism, fibrositis or nonarticular rheumatism. There are approximately three to six million Americans with this condition, and women are about four times more affected than men.
Unlike degenerative arthritis which affects the joints of the body, Fibromyalgia attacks the soft tissues – muscles, tendons and ligaments. Dr.’s Jacob and Lawrence report in their book, The Miracle of MSM, that even though they don’t know the cause, they have many testimonials relating to how MSM helped their Fibromyalgia patients.
Dr. Billie Jay Sahley describes the following symptoms in her book on Fibromyalgia (Malic Acid and Magnesium for Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Syndrome): tenderness in at least 11 of 18 specific anatomical points, stiffness, (especially in the morning upon awakening), sleep disturbances, chronic aching, pain, anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue, gastrointestinal disturbances, irritable bowel syndrome, tissue swelling, cardiovascular problems (such as dizziness & palpitations), muscle spasms and trigger point/muscle jerking, fluid retention, poor memory, PMS and tightening sensations.
Dr. Sahley believes the causes of Fibromyalgia include the following: aluminum toxicity, low oxygen levels, a build up of lactic acid, deranged mineral metabolism and mostly decreased ATP production. She recommends one or more of the following supplements for her Fibromyalgia patients:
Malic Acid Plus – a formula which contains the factors to normalize the ATP cycle
Pain Control – a combination of amino acids that help the brain release endorphins. This is also available in a product called Pain Control Cream which can be rubbed on the exterior of the body.
Anxiety Control 24 – an inhibitory neurotransmitter support formula.
Mood Sync – a combination of 5-HTP, St. John’s Wort, GABA, glutamine, Taurine and B-6
Tyrosine – for depression
DLPA – a mixture of L and DL types of phenylalanine for pain control.
We stock Dr. Billie Jay Sahley’s formulas and books as well as Bill Rich’s MSM crystals, Vitamin C formulas, MSM Lotion, Stabilized Oxygen and Alkalizer drops.
Cosmetic Benefits of MSM
MSM does wonders for skin, hair and nails due to the fact that these body parts contain a lot of sulfur. Because it softens skin and makes it more permeable, some say it even decreases wrinkles!
In 1970, Bill Rich was trapped in a burning van for 20 minutes following a highway collision. He was severely burned over a large part of his body. He had extensive skin grafting which left his body covered with scar tissue and adhesions, severely inhibiting normal activities because he was in so much pain. Bill Rich was introduced to MSM by a veterinarian and it changed his life. He has transformed nearly all of his scar tissue, is out of pain and stronger than he has ever been in his life. Mr. Rich started the first supplement company to provide high quality MSM to humans. He created MSM to take internally as well as one of the best, all natural MSM and Aloe Vera skin lotions you will find.
Athletic Use of MSM
Taking MSM both before and after workouts helps athletes increase blood flow and circulation to their tissues, increase their strength, as well as reduce soreness afterwards. Bill Rich mentioned that he is stronger than his sons after his many years of taking MSM.
How to Take MSM
I have discovered three common mistakes people make when they take MSM, which is why some don’t feel it is effective. They don’t take enough of it, they don’t take it frequently enough or they don’t use it with Vitamin C.
It is recommended that a person take 500 mg. MSM for every 30 pounds of body weight. Using a 500 mg. capsule, a 150 pound person could take five capsules, or 2500 mg.
MSM is used up in approximately 12 hours. Therefore, you need to take it twice a day. So the 150 pound person would take five capsules twice a day.
Third, it is suggested that half as much Vitamin C as the amount of MSM be consumed to make the MSM utilizable. In the above example, that means 1250 mg. of Vitamin C.
Those figures are simply a starting place for general health and well being. In cases of severe sulfur deficiency a person may need to take 3-4 times the recommended starting dose mentioned above.
Some people prefer to mix the crystallized or powdered form of MSM in fluid (water or juice), as they feel this gives them better absorption. It does have a somewhat bitter taste and takes quite a bit of stirring to get it to dissolve. One level kitchen teaspoon holds about 4000 mg. of MSM. You can heat the mixing water or juice slightly so that the MSM will dissolve better, and this does not damage the MSM.
As with any supplement, it is best to start at a smaller dose and work up to a higher dose, if you need it. Just don’t give up before you get the relief or support you are looking for. Remember that as you are taking higher amounts of MSM, with the concurrent Vitamin C required to assimilate the MSM, you could get diarrhea from either the MSM or the Vitamin C, or both. Therefore, in order to allow your body to absorb the MSM and Vitamin C, you may consider taking this supplement 3-4 times a day instead of twice a day.
In Beth Ley’s booklet (previously cited on page 3), there is a whole section entitled, “Therapeutic Usage of MSM” which has some variations on what I stated above. This little booklet has some very interesting information and I highly recommend it.
MSM for the Eyes
The eye is an open mucus membrane, so is important to keep this area cleansed. I’ve been cleansing my eyes for close to ten years now. When I discovered MSM, I had something new to add to my cleansing ritual. It is very soothing and strengthening for tired eyes that spend too much time in front of the computer. To mix my eyewash solution I heat 2-3 tablespoons of distilled water in a small glass pan for a few minutes. I add 1/4 teaspoon MSM crystals along with Dr. Christopher’s Herbal Eyewash tincture and stir until it dissolves. Then I use my glass eye cups and rinse my eyes.
Toxicity Studies of MSM
The first thing that is important when you take a supplement is to determine its safety. Here’s what Dr.’s Stanley Jacob and Ronald Lawrence had to say on the safety of MSM (The Miracle of MSM: The Natural Solution for Pain, Stanley W. Jacob, M.D., Ronald Lawnrence, M.D., Ph.D., Martin Zucker, p. 24-25.) “To determine the lethal dose of MSM, or of any substance, we used a standard test known as LD-50. LD stands for lethal dose. The number 50 refers to the amount of the substance required that would result in the death of half the number of laboratory animals used in the test. For MSM, the findings determined that the LD-50 was more than 20 grams for each kilogram of body weight. To put that into perspective, the LD-50 of common table salt you use for cooking is 2.5 to 3 grams per kilogram of body weight. MSM thus rates as one of the least toxic substances in biology and medicine. It compares to water, which has an LD-50 rating also greater than 20 grams per kilogram of weight.
“In follow-up experiments with human volunteers, we found no toxic effects at intake levels of up to 1 gram per kilogram of body weight per day for 30 days. That means about 68 grams for an average 150-pound person.”
If you take too much MSM, you could get a headache, or develop minor gastrointestinal discomfort. To reduce the risk of G.I. discomfort, take MSM with meals. Also don’t take it too close to bedtime, or it could keep you awake because it is very energizing. Remember also that MSM will help correct a condition of constipation, so you may have a good bowel cleansing from your initial doses!
MSM has not been shown to interfere with prescribed medication, and in some cases has gotten certain patients off medication. So, if you begin a high dosage MSM program, be sure to be monitored regularly by your physician. MSM has been shown to thin the blood and to decrease accumulations of platelets, so if you are on a blood thinning medication, or are taking aspirin to thin your blood, make sure to get checked regularly.
MSM has been shown to be safe for both children and pregnant women. However, most children don’t need it unless they have severe allergies, asthma or an inflammatory illness such as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
MSM is a sulfur compound but it is not a sulfite or sulfa drug. Therefore, if anyone has an allergy to sulfites or sulfa drugs, they can still take MSM. It is also recommended that for best results, you use MSM internally and also apply it externally, especially for arthritis, psoriasis, Fibromyalgia, any kind of surgery or scar tissue.
The Dangers of Soy
I discovered some information which is actually fairly old, but was new to me. This is so important and I can only devote a little bit of space to it so if you consume soy products, please do further research on your own.
In an article about the effects of soy on the brain, Craig Kojima writes about the research of Dr. Lon White, a Hawaiian scientist. He tells us that Dr. White found a significant statistical relationship between two or more servings of tofu a week and “accelerated brain aging,” and even an association with Alzheimer’s disease!
Those who stand to make considerable profits by selling soy foods claim that isoflavones – plant chemicals found in high concentrations in soybeans – offer “natural” cures for breast cancer, osteoporosis, prostate cancer, heart disease, menopausal hot flashes and other chronic conditions. “But,” Dr. White said, “the majority of scientists said the data they were talking about for beneficial effects on health is very weak” and doesn’t really support health claims for soy foods. This is especially evident for the claim that eating soy helps osteoporosis because soy also blocks absorption of important minerals such as calcium!
“Isoflavones are molecules that the soy plant makes while it’s germinating to help it fend off mold and other things that attack the plant in the ground,” Dr. White said. They’re plant molecules that look like estrogens but they’re not natural estrogens. He said, “When they get into cells, [isoflavones] actually affect the metabolism of cells. They inhibit certain kinds of enzymes and alter the metabolism of cells. “The bottom line,” stressed White, “is these are not nutrients. They are drugs. They will have some benefits and some negative things.”

Soy Consumption & Cancer
Soy has the reputation of protecting its consumers from cancer. But, like other information which is manipulated by the industries who wish to mandate what foods we should consume or avoid, there are many misconceptions. We are told that the Orientals have much lower rates of reproductive cancers. Yes, this is true. However, they also have higher rates of thyroid, stomach, esophageal, pancreatic and liver cancer. There is a phytoestrogen called genistein which is touted to kills cancer cells. Genistein does so by interfering with DNA synthesis in the affected aberrant cells. But the problem is that it also affects healthy cells!
There was a recent test tube study from Sweden where it was discovered that genistein inhibited the growth of the gray matter in the brains of young rats by inhibiting DNA synthesis. Up until 1999, scientists didn’t feel that the adult brain tissue was able to grow, so it would not have bothered them that genistein was harmful in the young brains. But E. Gould and associates at Princeton University discovered that our fellow primates, the macaques, continue to produce new neurons right into adulthood – neurons that migrate to higher centers in the cerebral cortex.
In humans, researchers at the Salk Institute have “found evidence of recent cell division in a part of the brain called the hippocampus in every person studied.” (Parade Magazine, November 21, 1999, pp. 10-13). The hippocampus is a very important part of our memory.
I am positively elated that scientists were wrong when they said that we could rebuild every part of our body except the brain and spinal cord. I always said it made no sense that our Creator would leave that part of the body out of the regenerative process, when it is the brain that controls all body processes!
The fact that we continue to produce new brain neurons into adulthood is so exciting! It goes along with what we already know about healing the brain and spinal column with essential oils which cross the blood-brain barrier! Refer to Embraced by the Essence, page 167 for a list of these oils.
The Hypothyroid Problem
Dr. Gillespie, a medical doctor and the author of several books on women’s health including The Menopause Diet, informs us that the isoflavones in soy can cause hypothyroidism in menopausal women. She says, “Soy’s ability to cause hypothyroidism has, in fact, been documented for generations.” Soybeans are well-known “goitrogens” which means they will induce goiters because its isoflavones compete with the enzyme that synthesizes thyroid hormone from tyrosine and iodine.
If that is not bad enough, according to Dr. Patrick G. Tuohy of the New Zealand Ministry of Health, there have been reports of childhood hypothyroid abnormalities associated with soy formulas since the 1950’s.
A 1990 study from Cornell University Medical College found that 59 children with autoimmune thyroid disease had received nearly three times as much exposure to soy-based milk formula as a healthy control group.
Soybeans & Impaired
The best article I’ve read on the dangers of soy is entitled, “Tragedy & Hype – The Third International Soy Symposium.” (Nexus Magazine, April-May 2000, p. 19). It stated that soybeans are high in phytic acid which is a substance that blocks the uptake of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc in the intestinal tract. The only positive thing in this article was that we could still eat fermented soy products, so foods such as tempeh and soy sauce are OK.
Soy protein isolate (SPI) is now very commonly added to many of the foods we eat. This is a highly processed food which has high levels of aluminum. (Remember that Dr. Sahley feels aluminum is one cause of Fibromyalgia.) When the soy protein isolate is treated with high heat to make textured vegetable protein, nitrates are formed, and then MSG is added for flavor. Eating this substance increases our need for vitamins E, K, D, and B12 and also creates deficiencies of calcium, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, copper, iron and zinc.
The Power of Surrender
None of us likes to admit defeat. Perhaps it makes us feel weak and ineffectual. But many times we feel life is just coming at us too quickly. Have you found yourself saying, “It’s too much! I’m overwhelmed! I can’t handle all of this now! HELP!” These are the times when we come up upon the inevitable “brick walls” in our life. What do we do? We can stop dead in our tracks. We can stand there bumping our “head” upon the wall. Or, we can simply surrender to our Creator and the battle within us.
What is the purpose of that wall? Is it meant to stop us so that we will re-think where we are going? Is it meant to stimulate our creativity in another direction? Is it a reminder to tune in to God so we can be in a co-creative process? I always like to find three positive reasons for something which initially looks negative.
Even though I find myself feeling frustrated and angry at these brick walls in my life, I find when they arise, that I have too much masculine (or yang) energy and it is time to stop, meditate (get into my yin energies) and simply surrender to God. When I do this, the answer to my problem comes easily to me. I can see over, around, under and through the brick wall. Perhaps if I look close enough, I can see a gift right at the base of the wall. This is especially when I need to get into the present moment!
For a wonderful meditation I will apply 2-3 drops of an essential oil blend which contains Lavender, Roman and German Chamomile, Angelica, Mountain Savory, Lemon and Spruce on my forehead, neck, and over my heart. Then I close my eyes and ask God to show me the purpose of these “brick walls” in my life.
I ask God to give me any messages I need to hear in this moment of now so that I can feel the most joy. If I have any lessons to learn, since I am in a surrendered space, I find that I learn quickly, without a “fight” with myself or with God.
When we stop and Surrender to go inside, we will discover a beautiful gift. Remember: Your life is God’s gift to you. What you do with your life is your gift to God.
